Lucebert Room

Standing collection in Cuenca

On that same day, in the same year, 2001, when the Millares Room was officially opened, another important space was opened in the Foundation: separated only by a corridor from the works on hessian and Millares’ negation of colour, there nestles the explosion of colour of the Lucebert Room, a place intended to exhibit part of the donation which Tony Lucebert — the artist’s widow — made to the Foundation.

Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk was born on 15 September, 1924, in Amsterdam and passed away on 10 May, 1994 in Alkmaar. A member of the famous COBRA group, he had very close ties to Spain, where he had a house-atelier near Jávea, and to the figure of Antonio, whom he also met in Paris and in Spain.
